Thank You

THANK YOU!!!!

As my tenure winds down, I would like to thank all the stakeholders (administration, school committee, staff, parents and students) for all your support during my two years as Principal at the Mary K. Goode Elementary School.

Upon my arrival, we were beginning a new school in a grade 1-5 environment. Thankfully, the students were so resilient in adjusting to the transition. They have made me smile daily and provide us all with such joy. Their eagerness and excitement make us proud.

I am so proud of the student council and leadership that has developed with students. Getting to know the parents and community helped me learn so much. School Committee has supported the efforts and winds of positive change. Staff has worked diligently to ensure student progress.

I wish you all the best of luck in the future and will never forget the impact you made on me, both personally and professionally.

Fondly,

Jeff Cateon

This Past Week

Good evening,

As we all reflect upon the horrific acts in the Greater Boston area and the explosion that took place in West, Texas, please pray for all the victims and families affected.

Yesterday certainly had all of us on the edge of our seats and in constant fear for the safety of our fellow commonwealth brethren.

Thank goodness for all the first responders, authorities (federal, state and local) and average citizens that make us all proud to live here in the commonwealth. Governor Patrick and Mayor Menino did a great job in leading the charge. Citizens providing tips and pictures from Monday to authorities allowed for this to be solved quickly. We needed closure in order to get back to some sense of normalcy.

Hug your children and families extra tight this weekend. We will all be looking forward to join together again on Monday as the MKG family.

Take care and enjoy the remainder of vacation.

Mr. Cateon

Message from Mr. Geoghegan, Principal of the John T. Nichols, Jr. Middle School

Message from Mr. Geoghegan, Principal of the John T. Nichols, Jr. Middle School

Dear Fifth Grade Parents:

The fifth grade orientation was originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 13; however, we
are postponing this event until later in the school year.

At this point, the Nichols Middle School is in the midst of some changes in its bell
schedule, and it would not be prudent to have the orientation before we have decided on
what the schedule will officially look like next year for your son or daughter.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Again, we will be rescheduling this important event for you later in the school year.

Thank you,

Martin R. Geoghegan

Updates at MKG

Classrooms at MKG

This post is to explain what occurred at MKG and dispel any rumors in regard to the extent of the damage sustained over the weekend. As a result of Nemo, we lost electricity and heat at MKG. Middleborough Gas and Electric worked diligently to restore power to the schools. When it came back on, 5 univents in classrooms had issues as water had frozen in the pipes. Fortunately, it was caught quickly on Sunday evening and the cleanup process began. The univents were repaired on Monday and damaged tiles were removed. Teachers in those rooms lost a few books and classroom rugs were deemed unusable. The school is back in good shape and ready for students to return.

The Mignosa Family

One of our families lost everything in a house fire this weekend.
I did speak to Mrs. Mignosa today and assured her son at  MKG will be supported. He is a great young man and always has a smile on his face. We want to sustain his upbeat personality.

She was so appreciative of the outpouring of support from the Middleborough community. We will put together an effort to collect items such as gift cards for this family. More information will be sent out soon. I have spoken to Mrs. Medeiros, who has volunteered to spearhead the effort at MKG.

Looking forward to seeing students back in our hallways tomorrow!

Lucky Lunch, Eagle painting, Recess and Constant Contact

Lucky Lunch

Lucky Lunch began this week.  Classrooms are earning points and we will announce winners on Friday. They are working really hard.

Eagle Painting

Where the map used to be will now contain our eagle that be painted and hold our feathers for the Mary K. Do Gooder awards. Thank you to Kara from the On the Spot. We appreciate it!

Recess

In the winter time, recess becomes difficult. The grassy area changes with snow, ice and mud. It can also be frozen solid. During these times, the blacktop becomes our recess area. It has limitations because students can run and fall, leading to injuries. In the spring, a goal we will have is to repaint the blacktop area so it is fresh with play zones.

Constant Contact

Located in the lower left corner of the Mary K. Goode website, you will find a QR code box and a link that when clicked will ask for your name and email address. This will allow us to add you to our email list and send a digital newsletter. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school. Thank you.

Welcome Back!

Happy New Year and welcome back! Your children were so willing to share details of their vacation and excited to be back in school with their teachers and classmates.

In yesterday's Tuesday (Wednesday) folder, you found a map and  list of procedures that were provided to staff in regard to Monday, January 7th and our new bus dismissal lineup. We wanted to show you how the internal procedures will work with staff, hence the reason you received the same information. In addition, all the fine details are very important to ensure success. We will be spending time during lunches on Friday explaining the map and procedures to your children.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the school for additional information.

Stay warm and please make sure your children are dressed appropriately.
